Recommendations for Ralph Grunewald and GrunewaldSolutions:

Michael Berenbaum
Historian, academician (American Jewish University), museum designer (Los Angeles, CA); formerly: Project Director & Director of the Research Institute, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington, DC)
I worked with Ralph for more than a decade when he first worked on the Campaign to Remember, the fund-raising arm of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and then when he worked as Director of External Affairs.  I helped recruit him to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and have followed his career since both he and I left the Museum.  Ralph is a fine professional: seasoned, sensitive, diligent, competent, creative, and hardworking.  He is politically skilled and skilled with people.  He works well with others and knows how to get the best out of them and he also knows how to mediate situations and also to conduct hard fought negotiations.  He is absolutely reliable, honest, and honorable.  I relied on him completely and I trusted him fully.  He is wise when wisdom is required, intense when the situation calls for it, and always hardworking, passionate about what he does, and about the causes he embraces.  I would regard it as a coup to have Ralph work with me again.  Whoever hires him gets a gem of a person and a treasured employee and colleague.

David Bernstein

Executive Director, The David Project (Boston, MA)

Ralph has been an outstanding asset for us as we’ve gone through an organizational change process. He brings a wealth of experience, strategic insight, incredible follow through, and thoroughness to every project. We’ve used him for executive coaching of multiple staff, creating a Board governance plan, outreach to potential donors, public relations and communications work and establishing partnerships with other organizations. He doesn’t only “consult,” he gets into the nitty-gritty of a project. Beyond his impressive array of skills and his deep background of the issues, Ralph is an absolute pleasure to work with!

Marc Breslaw
Executive Director, U.S. Association for U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (Washington, DC); formerly: Associate Museum Director for Development, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington, DC)
Ralph has a number of skill sets that distinguish him from other executives. On the one hand, he possesses vision and imagination, and is not afraid to think big.  On the other hand, he has well-honed analytical skills that anticipate the ramifications of his ideas along with an attention to detail necessary for successful execution.  He presents himself with credibility and conviction and has learned the fine points of converting those attributes into successful negotiation and consensus-building.

Malia Brink
Special Counsel, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (Washington, DC)
Ralph is an exceptional manager and supervisor.  He has a knack for getting the very best from his employees, knowing when they will thrive with space, and when to intervene to assist.  This skill helped him effectively oversee an array of very different substantive areas, such as policy, publishing, membership, and meetings while at NACDL.

William H. Buckman
Attorney, William H. Buckman Law Firm (Moorestown, NJ)
Ralph is a consummate professional.  We hired Ralph as Executive Director for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. With Ralph's guidance, our organization grew and prospered. Ralph guided us adroitly through difficult times and growing pains. Ralph's competence in managing a large and diverse volunteer group and professional staff was matched by his ability to achieve consensus and positive results.  Ralph left our organization after a strong tenure.  As a token of NACDL's great appreciation for Ralph's help we designated him as "Executive Director Emeritus."

Ralph is a savvy and disciplined manager, and, at the same time, a good colleague who is always willing to take the time and make the effort to provide assistance and counsel.

Martin Goldman
Director, Foundation for Jewish Studies (Rockville, MD); formerly: Director, Office of Survivor Affairs, U.S Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington, DC)
Ralph was the Director of External Affairs at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum at the beginning of the Museum's life.  His job was to be the voice of the Museum to all people, to the Jewish community, to the non-Jewish community, to foreign dignitaries, to visitors.  Ralph did a remarkable job in this position.  Through his efforts, the reputation of the Museum grew to international renown.  His constant stewardship of the Museum's name and reputation earned him the accolades of so many people inside and outside of the Museum.  Ralph's strengths are his intelligence, his dedication, his willingness to work hard, and his humanity.

James A. Klein

President, American Benefits Council (Washington, DC)

The American Benefits Council engaged GrunewaldSolutions to develop a personnel manual for our association.  During the development process, Ralph identified numerous issues for us to consider in order to establish clarity around employee and employer expectations.  I greatly value Ralph's insights and his ability to quickly grasp the culture of our organization as he developed a set of guidelines that effectively served our needs.

Fred Krebs

Rebecca Neuwirth
Executive Director, Thanks to Scandinavia (New York, NY); formerly: Director of Special Projects, American Jewish Committee (New York, NY)
Ralph is both exceedingly personable and professional -- a very unique and welcomed combination.  He works in a calm and deliberate way, but with focus and accomplishment.

Ellis Pines
Senior Strategist, TMP Worldwide (McLean, VA)
Ralph is a very capable leader, who combines executive and legal capabilities with an understanding of stakeholder dynamics in the non-profit world.  He has the vision to understand the value, even necessity of change, while being sensitive to many different points of view. Although I had the privilege of working with Ralph at a major religious foundation, I can easily see his leadership ability transferable to other milieus: advocacy, government, education, and health care, as well as their corresponding supportive organizations in the private sector.

Theogene Rudasingwa

Interim Co-ordinator, Rwanda National Congress (Washington, DC)
Once in a while, in one's life time , you meet rare individuals who cross your path and they impact your life in profound ways. Such a man is Ralph, in whom I am privileged to have a very reliable friend, but most importantly, a true brother. Ralph combines the rare attributes of fierce professionalism, and exceptional humility. Ralph, has,on many occasions, shown to be selfless in serving greater causes far beyond his comfort zone and personal needs. On Rwanda, in particular, Ralph shares the same dream as the majority of Rwandas-a free, united, peaceful and prosperous Rwanda. That is why he was there in Bethesda, Maryland, like the gentle but anxious midwife, to witness the historic birth of Rwanda National Congress on December 12, 2010. I have known Ralph since 1996, and he is the same amazingly humane man of integrity yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Melinda Sarafa

Marvin Schechter

Ralph possessed all the attributes of a successful manager and leader: integrity, patience and a can-do attitude while serving as Executive Director of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  He is a real people person with the ability to get the very best out of those who work with him. A great personality and an attention to detail complete the overall description of an individual anyone would enjoy working with at any type of project.
